Case Study: 3D Gypsum Wall Cladding for Boutique

Custom Modular Design for High-End Retail Environments

Project Background and Objectives

Plasterego® was selected by a design studio specialized in bespoke retail interiors to support the creation of a three-dimensional gypsum wall cladding for a jewelry boutique in Madrid.

The goal was ambitious: to design an elegant and sophisticated surface that would enhance the displayed products. Each module, although identical in shape, was to appear unique through the play of shadows and reflections generated by its faceted geometry. The wall cladding also needed to integrate backlit niches and custom furniture while maintaining aesthetic coherence and geometric precision across the entire surface.

Design Challenges

  1. 3D Modular Geometry: Designing a module composed of three faceted hexagons, ensuring uniformity and precision throughout the wall.

  2. Visual Continuity: Creating a visually dynamic surface where light and shadow offer a perception of variety despite modular repetition.

  3. Accuracy: Maintaining precision at critical points such as edges, joints, and seams.

  4. Architectural Integration: Perfectly aligning the cladding with shop windows, furniture, and curved recessed niches.

  5. On-Site Support: Providing practical solutions and assistance to the installation team for custom cuts and adaptations.

Implemented Solutions

1. Custom “Diamond-Cut” Module

Panel composed of three three-dimensional faceted hexagons, designed to:

  • Feature simulated internal joints
  • Allow for free orientation during installation, creating visual variation
  • Ensure a visually continuous and dynamic surface

2. Custom End Panels and Cut Optimization

Special panels designed for horizontal terminations, which:

  • Simplified installation at the most delicate points

  • Reduced working time

  • Maintained formal and geometric integrity in every detail

3. Precise Quantity Calculation

All modules, including offcuts and spare parts, were pre-calculated during the design phase, ensuring a streamlined and controlled production and logistics flow.

4. In-House Testing and Installation Support

Demonstration sessions were organized at our facility for the installation team, including:

  • Tests on complex cuts (such as curved connections for niches)

  • Advice and techniques for adapting elements without altering the design

  • Methods for precise and localized finishing

Material Performance and Long-Term Value

The choice of material brought considerable technical and functional benefits, which contributed significantly to the success of the final result:

  • Absolute geometric precision of the cladding, even in controlled environmental conditions

  • High-quality finishes, ideal for highly visible environments

  • Possibility of localized adjustments and refinishing without compromising overall integrity

  • Naturally non-combustible material, compliant with fire prevention regulations
  • Well-defined, luminous, and refinable surface, enhancing light effects

These factors not only ensured outstanding aesthetics but also streamlined the execution phase, fully aligning with the project’s architectural constraints.

Results

  • Continuous three-dimensional surface, with a constantly shifting visual effect due to light and shadow

  • Precise architectural integration, designed to harmonize with display and structural elements

  • Simplified installation process thanks to optimized modules and hands-on technical support

  • Shorter installation times due to prefabrication and elimination of critical on-site cuts

  • Aesthetic coherence with the brand’s exclusive image

Conclusion

This project is a clear example of the Plasterego® method:
technology, design, reliability, and on-site collaboration.

We transformed an aesthetic challenge into a solid, precise, and functional solution—contributing to the creation of an environment that conveys exclusivity through every detail.
